While some rappers tend to talk about gang life and violence, one teen is putting a positive spin on the music genre by using his experience living with muscular dystrophy as inspiration for his lyrics.
Austin Puckett, a teenager from Springboro, Ohio, is used to wowing the crowd with his musical gift, although he admits that some people may be a bit skeptical when he takes the stage, according to the Dayton Daily News.
Puckett is confined to a motorized wheelchair because of muscular dystrophy, a disease which progressively weakens the muscles that can result in the loss of mobility. Because of the condition, Puckett has a low immune system that has hospitalized him in the past for minor illnesses like the flu.
For the rapper, who goes by the name Puck, music serves as an outlet to talk about living with these struggles.
"When I say hip hop, you probably think gangsters, big rims and iced-out chains. That could not be further from what my music is about," he told the news provider. "It's the story of my life up and down. I would like to have people hear what I have to say."
