Saying that Greg Krause will go the distance for a cause he believes in is an understatement.
The 39-year-old medical school graduate took advantage of an airline ticket special to begin a journey that will take him 55,000 miles across the world, in order to raise money for a school in a Zambian village in Africa.
Krause purchased jetBlue's "All You Can Jet Pass" that offered unlimited 30-day travel for $599. Then, he teamed up with Orphan's Promise to create a fund-raising effort for the school that his parents started four years ago.
Gil and Ronda Krause told NBC News they started the MICS School in Macha, Zambia, to support kids who have been orphaned or abandoned. Their son continues to look for creative ways to help the school. Last year, he raised $9,000 by running a marathon in his pajamas.
"Every little bit makes a difference in the lives of these children," Greg said. "I want to do everything I can to help them out."
As part of his trek, Greg will be a passenger on nearly 50 flights, which will take him through 25 cities in five countries, while documenting the experience on his blog. As of October 7, he had raised $4,890.
