How many of you join Dick Clark and watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve?
I live 12 blocks south of Times Square. I can practically see the ball descend from the vantage point of my roof, though it’s usually too cold to be up there. I’d rather watch it on TV with Julee and Millie anyway, curled up on the couch, the three of us sharing a bowl of chips.
For hours after the ball drops, people stream through my neighborhood, and Millie wants to say happy New Year to every one of them on her bedtime walk, the first walk of the new year. It’s quite a party.
I’m excited for you to meet Tammie Temple, who won our New Year, New You contest last year. We asked readers to tell us what they wanted to change most about themselves and why, and we would send a GUIDEPOSTS “dream team” of experts to help.
Tammie hit it out of the park. She said there were a lot of things she wanted to change—her weight and unhealthy lifestyle habits for starters. Most of all, though, she wanted to change her negative thinking.
“That is the root of my problems,” Tammie told us. “I don’t want to be a different person, just a better one, the one God wants me to be.”
Isn’t negative thinking at the root of most of our problems? Adversity will find us; it’s how we respond that makes the difference in our lives.
Tammie Temple underwent a transformation that will amaze and inspire you. Yes, she lost more than 60 pounds, but the real weight that was lifted from her was the weight of her negative thinking.
She didn’t so much change herself as how she looked at herself. And that changed her life.
A positive attitude—now that’s the best New Year’s resolution of all.
