Why I Joined: To get in better shape and lose some of that "empty nest" weight.
My Goal: To eat better—limit junk foods, which I love!—and be consistent about working out regardless of whether I am on vacation or at home.
My Challenge: I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted and never had to work out consistently before. But, as I’ve gotten older, I have to watch my weight more closely.
Also, with our children in college, my husband and I eat out more often and take more trips together. It’s hard to keep to a regular exercise and healthy-eating regimen while traveling. I also seem to eat more junk food whenever I start missing my kids.
A Word From the Wise: Don't get discouraged if you slip up. I’ve gained a lot of weight and developed unhealthy eating habits, but I am trying every day to develop a new lifestyle, a better attitude and healthier habits.

Emotional eating...something
Emotional eating...something to which I can definitely relate! Once you get into the habit of dealing with stress by eating, that habit is so hard to break. Replacing unhealthy snacks with healthy ones does help, but it does not replace the "urge" to reach for food in response to emotions. One thing I have been working on in my New Healthy You efforts is to find alternate, non-food ways to deal with stress. Once you start focusing on it, it is surprising how many things other than hunger make you want to snack!
Good advice to not get discouraged -- the important thing is that you've chosen a better lifestyle. One slip-up here or there isn't going to bring the whole thing crashing down. (This is something I need to remind myself of -- when I slip up I tend to use it as an excuse to eat more junk!)
