Why I Joined: I’ve been a Type 2 diabetic since 1993 with a long family history of the disease. I’ve been through phases of being more and then less proactive about managing my disease.
I joined New Healthy You so I could start taking better care of myself to prevent complications down the line.
My Goal: I want to start monitoring my blood sugar level more frequently in order to make better food choices. I also want to be more proactive about what foods I choose to eat and what they do to my blood sugar levels.
With diabetes your A1C blood test is the monitor of how well you’ve managed your blood sugars, and I’d like to get mine down about one point.
My Challenge: Time is always my enemy. Between work and home responsibilities and tasks, there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done. I eat many of my meals on the run while doing something else, which makes it easier for me to forget to take blood readings.
A Word From the Wise: I’ve used food and activity journals in the past and they do help. I also use a pedometer to gauge how much I walk around in any given day.
In bad weather, I walk around our large indoor office complex for exercise instead of walking outside.

I also have type 2 diabetes
I also have type 2 diabetes (diagnosed 2007) and can definitely relate! Stress/busy days make it so tough to eat right, and on time. Great idea to use journals so you can carry them with you. I have journaled in the past to keep track of my Weight Watchers points, but have fallen out of the habit.
Looking forward to hearing what works for you! Keep us updated on your progress. :)
