Hello, My Name Is...

To become more approachable, Scott Ginsberg started wearing a nametag to...everywhere!

Everyone who sees Scott Ginsberg knows who he is right away. And it's not because he's famous for anything. It's because he wears a nametag. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

On his way out of an event in college, Scott noticed a trashcan full of discarded name-tags. "I thought, What would happen if I left mine on all day?" He got his answer quickly. The simple act of putting his name out in the open "inspired these great conversations, and I started meeting all these new people," he says.

He started telling others how they, too, could amp up their approachability and improve their social and business lives. A writer for a major newspaper did a story on Scott and his visibility skyrocketed. He found himself leading seminars and giving lectures. "I tell people about my five main goals after meeting someone," he says. "Learn, help, relate, ask, influence."

He's done all of that and then some. Not only has Scott worn a nametag since that college event in 1997, he's even got one tattooed on his chest. "I'm that dedicated to being approachable!" he laughs.

Is there ever a time when it's not appropriate to wear a nametag? Like his friends' wedding? "I told the groom that I wouldn't wear a nametag if he found it offensive," says Scott. "The groom said, 'I will kill you if you don't wear a nametag!' It's become a part of who I am."

It also inspires everyone who meets Scott, attends one of his seminars, or checks out his website to be friendlier. "People are able to trust someone who will tell the world what their name is," he says. "For that reason, the nametag is really for everyone but me. The world is a mirror, and I enjoy showing people what they could become."

I spend a huge amount of

I spend a huge amount of time trying to think of new things to say to people I see everyday. Just a word to brighten a day. This gesture of wearing a name tag is not only very special but it is a serious big smile to the world that says "Hey, I am willing to be your friend."

I enjoyed reading this so much. Peace.

People notice your name tags

People notice your name tags sometimes when you go thru the line at the checkout in the supermarket.... they all know us by name and they say did you have a job interview honey?? ( they know we are perpetually single)

I buy so many groceries. I'm feeding the masses. We are the only single men on the beach that shop here year round almost all hours of the night. I'm sure they wonder who cooks for me. I've been on strike for a decade around the house... dishes laundry garbage... feed the cats; cut the grass.

I would love to wear a name tag someplace. We don't wear them at church that much anymore or AA. I love hearing about people still in circulation... I bought a neckties 4 years ago... I haVe a teaching degree! I'm dreaming again.
