When Joan Mulligan was gardening in her backyard in 1976, she noticed that her wedding rings must have slipped off sometime during her yard work.
According to wickedlocal.com, Mulligan was heartbroken at the thought of losing her rings, and promised a $20 reward to any of the neighborhood kids who found them.
Even after her family moved from the house 12 years later, Mulligan still held out faith and hope that she would one day be reunited with her missing jewelry.
Mulligan got her wish when the son of the new occupant found the rings while playing around in the yard. The boy asked her mother if they had belonged to her, and the mother realized she needed to get in contact with the previous owners.
This reunion adds a special meaning to Mulligan, who said she's planning to wear the rings for a special day coming up.
"This is my 50th wedding anniversary, so it's very nice," Mulligan told 7 News in Boston.
