One Pennsylvania teacher has been honored for using a personal approach with educating her math students.
Michelle Switala, who is a mathematics teacher at Pine-Richland School District in Pennsylvania, was awarded the 2010 teacher of the Year award.
According to the state's Education Secretary Gerald L. Zahorchak, Switala was chosen out of 12 finalists for inspiring "her students with her enthusiasm for teaching and love for mathematics and her job."
Zahorchak added that Switala will serve as an inspiration to her fellow educators.
With a positive attitude and strong work ethic, Switala was able to reach her students by engaging them through personalized lessons.
Matt Ceurvorst, one of her students, told KDKA.com that Switala "makes her lessons unique from other teachers, she really helps us grasp the concepts and she goes the extra mile."
After receiving the award, Switala said she came from "a long line of teachers" in her family and that "this truly is the best job."
