Later this week, more than 100 women will achieve a milestone that sets them on a path to success—and personal growth and development.
The group of hard-working graduates will receive their high school equivalency diploma in a ceremony at Grace Outreach, an educational program in the South Bronx.
Since 2005, Grace Outreach has helped 415 low-income women over the age of 18 earn their GED and increase their employment opportunities. The nonprofit organization also offers a program to help women increase their earning powers after they have their diploma.
"I walk away with more than a GED," said recent graduate Angela Staton. "I walk away with renewed confidence in my abilities and potential to be a strong competitor in the job market."
Meanwhile, fellow graduate Elizabeth Diaz explained that her experience in the program helped her realize her potential. "I am smart. I can do anything I set my mind to—even go back to school," she said.
The Grace Outreach program is tuition-free and most participants can finish and earn their GED within six months.
