Healthy living helps create a sense of peace and harmony. This Earth Day, a new initiative hopes to extend this sentiment to younger members of society.

The Green Generation is a campaign that aims to bring people together in a revolutionary green movement, as did 'The Greatest Generation' that followed World War II.

The Green Generation program starts this Earth Day, April 22, and concludes on the 40th official Earth Day in 2010. However, next year's Earth Day is not an end to environmental awareness. Rather, the date marks a reassessment point—a chance to see how people are making the planet a better place.

Youngsters around the country are already laying plans for living green throughout their lives. For example, children at the Chesterbrook Academy in South Carolina, plan on a "Ladybug Release" where each child recites a poem and releases the insects, the Deseret News reports. Principal Susan Asher told the paper, "they learn a lot about taking care of the earth and making it beautiful."

Students at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY plan to sell "solar smoothies" made using solar-powered blenders. The funds will provide solar panels for a Habitat for Humanity house, the newspaper reports.
