Every father wants the best for his daughter on her wedding day—but not everyone is called upon to give the gift of life before he can walk her down the aisle.
A year ago, Ian Greig of Gartocharn, Scotland donated one of his kidneys to his 36-year-old daughter Heather after hers had failed.
In May, the devoted father got his reward: he was able to watch Heather enjoy one of the most special days of her life, as she tied the knot with boyfriend Jamie Dyer.
Heather was on dialysis and close to death before the kidney transplant—and doctors were struggling to find a suitable match when her father stepped in.
While she was still recovering in the hospital, Dyer popped the question, giving Heather something special to look forward to after her recovery.
Heather told Scotland's Lennox Herald that before her dad's donation, she didn't think she would ever see her wedding day.
"It broke my heart to see what she was going through," Ian added. "But waking up, having donated a kidney to my daughter, was the most sensational feeling."
