Some women who are living with cancer find refuge and healing from creative pursuits.
This month, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a number of survivors' groups across the country are displaying artwork that depicts their struggle with the disease.
In Houston, the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's Breast Cancer Support Group is displaying collages that represent each member's experience.
"Breast cancer is such an individual journey," the group's Frances Arzu told KIAH-TV, commenting on the uniqueness of each artist's piece.
Meanwhile, at Enloe Cancer Center in California, survivor Marianna Love told KHSL-TV that when she was creating the water media paintings that are currently on display at the hospital she felt her stress melt away. "When we look at beauty, it changes our reality," she explained.
This type of healing artwork benefits more than just the creator—it also gives the viewer some insight into people who are living with cancer.
Enloe Cancer Support Program coordinator Rebecca Senoglu told the news provider that survivors' art shows "we're all human—and those people are not alone."
