I was in front of my computer, browsing eBay for materials to use in a workshop I signed up to teach at my knitting guild, when I came across this lucet, a tool for making the thick cords popular on clothes in medieval times.
Over the past few years I’d collected lucets, and had even acquired one made out of bone—just like the Vikings used! This particular lucet on eBay was listed as an antique, so I decided to bid on it.
Then I noticed that the seller was all the way in Sweden. I worried about the chances of an international parcel being lost or damaged. Especially one as valuable as this. It seemed like a risky proposition. I sighed in frustration and looked away from the computer. My gaze rested on the collection of ANGELS ON EARTH magazines I keep stacked neatly by my desk. It suddenly struck me that this humble, wooden lucet looked much like the harps the angels play in heaven. I couldn’t resist.
Lord, please ask your angels to watch over this transaction for me. I typed in a price, and right as I was about to post my bid, I noticed the seller’s address: Angelholm, Sweden. Angelholm, of all places! How could I go wrong?
While waiting for my package to arrive, I made sure I had enough lucets for every student who’d signed up for my workshop. We’d go medieval!
My lucet was delivered in perfect condition, just in time for the workshop. Not that I had any doubt it would be. I knew the angels of Angelholm would see it safely across the ocean.
