The judges of Miami-Dade county developed an organization that would provide teddy bears to children who were faced with real life stories of abuse.
However due to budget cuts, the money allotted to supply the bears was cut in half.
Chief investigative reporter Michele Gillen heard about this problem and decided she needed to help by developing the Adopt-a-Bear program, which allows people to donate money that will go towards delivering a bear to a child facing abuse or abandonment.
Gillen believes that this effort will help provide comfort to children facing traumatic events.
"They are so traumatized and everyone is arguing and the mother has been taken out of that room. They may never see the mother again," Gillen told CBS4. "Just having that bear gives them a connection, it's just so special."
The organization has so far adopted thousands of bears, but has hopes that the upcoming holiday season will help them beat previous records.
