Honeymooners

Our wedding day was approaching. My fiancé, Michelle, and I juggled work, wedding tasks and volunteering. We could've put volunteering on hold, but it's too important to us.

That passion for giving was one of the things that showed we were meant for each other.

White Castle to the Rescue

For young couples who dream of getting married, sometimes the fairytale wedding is a bit out of their price range. One young bride's co-workers stepped up to the plate to give her a day she'd remember for the rest of her life.

Jessica Patterson, a 20-year-old from Tennessee, knew she had met the man of her dreams in boyfriend Matt McCullough. After being engaged for a year, the couple could not afford the lavish wedding they wanted, so Patricia Cawthron, Patterson's boss, suggested they have the wedding at her place of employment—White Castle.

The showers you’ll never forget will not be the ones where you got a lot of gifts but the ones where something personal and emotional took place.

I’m going to share with you three ideas that made memorable showers—two that were given for me and one that I gave for a friend.

The Scripture Shower

"Do You Take This Man...?"

“Well, this is it,” my fiancé, Jesse, said, walking me to my door at the Catskill Mountains resort where we would get married under a tent in less than 48 hours. “Our big weekend. And even brides as pretty as you need their beauty sleep.”

“I just hope nothing goes wrong,” I said. “The food, the wine, the flowers...”

“Don’t worry,” Jesse assured me. “Just have fun.”

Our Italian Adventure

I missed my new husband, Anthony, terribly. Not that I didn't love studying abroad in the southern Italian city of Lecce that summer. But it had been a month —the longest we'd been apart since our wedding a year before. I couldn't wait for him to visit. I wanted to share all I'd seen.

A Wedding to Remember

On Saturday, May 2, a Washington, D.C. couple celebrated their nuptials at a small local chapel.

The twist? Both the groom, Dante White, and his bride, Nhiahni Chestnut, are homeless. The wedding ceremony, reception and honeymoon were all paid for by Grace Episcopal Church.

White told the Washington Post he has lived on the streets since the age of 14, while Chestnut struggled with drug addiction earlier in her life, but says she is currently clean.

Disaster Cake

I was still in college when I married a serviceman. I hadn’t yet met his family, and because I’d heard stories about the in-law problems of other Army wives, I was plenty apprehensive about meeting mine.

After my husband’s discharge, we’d settled into our own home for a month or so when my mother-in-law phoned. “I’ve invited the relatives to Sunday dinner so you can meet them all,” she said.

Making It Real

I scanned the ingredient list and panicked. “Chicken broth?” I gripped the handle of the shopping cart as I navigated the aisles of the neighborhood grocery store in New York City.

It was 1969. I was a young newlywed, and I didn’t know the first thing about preparing a meal. Frustrated, I crept back to our little apartment in the married-students dorm at the seminary where Merle, my husband, was a grad student. Where do I start?

Recycling to Fund Wedding

With the green movement becoming popular in recent years with many people concerned about the environment, activities such as recycling are in vogue.

One couple decided to combine being environmentally friendly as well as provide money for their upcoming nuptials by starting a website asking citizens to donate their bottles and cans, according to Spokesman.com.
