Go Green, Save Green

Green may be the new black, but it doesn’t have to leave you in the red.

And while I can’t promise that you’ll be able to get cartloads of organic food free every week, it’s still possible to trim your costs…

First, Understand What You’re Buying
The USDA defines organic foods as those free of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, irradiation, and bioengineering.

Game Plan for Life

You look at my stats—Super Bowl-winning football coach, owner of a championship NASCAR racing team—and you might think, What does this guy know about money problems? He’s probably rolling in it.

Well, I have to tell you, I learned about finances the hard way. I was such a bonehead when it came to money I ignored one warning flag after another. It took an all-out disaster to bring me to a point where I’d trust God and follow his game plan.

In the Balance

I was standing in the kitchen trying to come up with an idea for dinner. My husband, Bob, walked in, trailed by our kids, Daniel, Philip, Bethany, Jonathan and Joshua. The kids looked really excited.

“How about McDonald’s tonight?” Bob suggested cheerfully.

“Yeah!” echoed the kids.

I shot a look at the six of them. And not the happy look of a wife suddenly freed from cooking. “Bob, it’s Thursday!” I exclaimed.

“Huh?” Bob said.

The kids’ faces fell.

The Power of Half

How would you react if your teenager wanted you to sell your house and donate half the money to charity? Kevin Salwen of Atlanta, Georgia, said he was in shock when his 14-year-old Hannah suggested just that, and then wouldn’t let it go.

It all started in 2006 when they were in the car together one morning. Hannah noticed a man driving a Mercedes on one side of the street and another man holding a sign asking for money for food on the other. It really bothered her; she knew what she was seeing just wasn’t right and something stirred in her head, heart and soul.
