Mini Marathon Runners

An eight-year-old running a marathon? Impossible, you say. But what if those 26.2 miles were broken up into short increments, run over several months? It’s called a kids’ marathon, and it’s catching on all over the United States, where childhood obesity rates having tripled in the past 30 years.

Grandma Living with Cancer is Fulfilling Bucket List

On September 17, Susie Mann jumped out of an airplane and felt the thrill of skydiving for the first time.

What differentiates her experience from other inspirational stories is that Mann, 79, was diagnosed with terminal intestinal cancer last spring. But she is not letting the diagnosis prevent her from living life to its fullest.

Mom's Best

They fled Egypt, grabbing unbaked loaves from their ovens.

As they raced through the desert, the searing sun baked the bread into flat, unleavened cakes. Only when they were safe from the Pharaoh, on the other side of a sea that miraculously parted for them, did the Jews finally have time to celebrate their freedom from slavery, eating the hard crackers we call “matzo.”

On Passover, my family gathers around the dining room table at my parents’ house and reads about that first, modest Seder, just part of the amazing story of the Exodus.

Windows into Phillip's World

Phillip is my older brother.

Usually an older sibling looks after younger ones, but all my life I have cared for my brother, who has lived away from home since he was six years old.

Phillip is severely autistic. He is able to dress himself and enjoys looking good. He is unfailingly kind, endearing and loves to be helpful and busy.
