Backyard bird lovers, I need advice! :) What's the best kind of food to attract really cool birds? I have a big feeder in my garden, which mostly just attracts sparrows and these big black birds (crows, I guess) and the occasional mourning dove. I'm using one of those "wild bird mix" formulas from Wal-Mart in there now. I did have black thistle in there once but it did not seem to make a difference. We have goldfinches and indigo buntings and red-winged blackbirds in our area, but I never see anything like that at our feeder.
