Texas sisters Wanda and Nova square off with their dueling yam dishes. Every Thanksgiving they fuss over which is best. You can settle the argument.

I am making GransYams however I am adding 2 teaspoons of orange extract to the yams while mixing them together and also 2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon.
They sound so delicious and tasting the mixture before
I placed it in the oven, I think my family will be very pleased!
I MUST vote for MeMaw's Sweet Taters! Those are the best sweet potatoes in Texas! I especially love the pineapple and it's so easy to prepare, even I can make it! One last thing - this was my Mother's recipe, so I am a little partial!
I like yam recipes that are used as part of the Thanksgiving meal, as a vegetable side dish, not as a dessert. Having a diabetic in the family, this sounds like the more healthful dessert. I prefer cinnamon and pecans to a topping of marshmallows....it's all a matter of personal taste.
I think Memaw's Sweet Taters sound awesome...especially because they're so simple to make! Since yams are often so sweet (and prepared with dessert-like ingredients) I like that these just go for the whole dessert thing! A potato that works as dessert...what could be better than that? :)
Gram's Yams has my vote. Using raw yams (not canned), cinnamon and pecans sounds wonderful!
can't remember if it was in guideposts or angels on earth but there was a recipe a few years ago by a woman, last name johnson, that is the same one my mother in law got from Dorothy Johnson in Newcastle Wyoming. Almost like sweet potato pie with a pecan/struessel topping and no crust. Best one ever!
