Hello cat owners...wondering if there's anyone out there who can help me. One of my cats, which I took in as a stray, developed a weight problem after she was spayed. After the operation, she gained several pounds (went from 8 pounds to 14 pounds in less than a year). At her last vet visit, when I mentioned she'd been wheezing every once in a while, the doc said losing weight would be healthy for her and probably help her breathe easier. My question is...how do you help a cat lose weight? I have stopped filling her dish every time she "asks" (she's hard to resist!) and cut out human food and limited treats to only occasionally. She goes outside most days (supervised) but mostly she just lays on the patio and watches the world go by. She plays with my other (skinny) cat in short bursts, and has plenty of toys to investigate, but she just seems to prefer laying around! Just wondering if any other cat owners have experienced this problem and have any advice for me and my large kitty. Thanks! :-)
LOL! I know what you mean. If only it was so simple for the humans to control their diets!
Great idea about putting food in the basement! I may give that a try. I've also been making sure she gets plenty of outside time when I am working in the yard. She likes chasing birds, even though she never gets anywhere near catching them!
Thanks!
I have had a fat cat too. Putting her food in the basement so that she had to climb the stairs helped her to lose weight.
She is now a lot lighter and I am in control of my urge to give her more food than she needs.
I hope that this helps. If only I could control my own urge to eat.
I also have a fat cat. My youngest cat is fat and has that belly fat hanging. I older cat is skinny, almost too skinny. The problem is when I feed them I have to keep an eye on them so that the fat cat doesn't eat all of hers and them roots the skinny cat out of the way so she can get his also. I have started giving the fat cat less food and the skinny one more food. That is slowly helping, but only if I watch them eat.
