Majesty of the Seas
Now that it’s been warmish all week, I promised my girls we’d go up in the attic and dig out their summer clothes.
For seven-year-old Evangeline, going up in the attic for clothes is like going on an in-house shopping spree, thanks to hand-me-downs from her big sister and older girl cousins. Pull it brand-new off a rack or broken in out of a storage box, it’s all the same to Evie. And if it’s pink or sparkly, well, what could be better!

Thinking Ahead
You work way ahead of the calendar on a bimonthly magazine. We’re just wrapping up the May/June issue here at ANGELS ON EARTH, and sometimes I forget what time of year it is.
I wake up thinking I forgot to send my daddy a Father’s Day card, or that I have to text Mama for Mother’s Day. You see, she got a fancy new cell phone and is wild about texting. “Makes me feel young!” she says.

"I Never Get Sick"
I stayed home sick today, which is unusual for me. In fact the last time I felt sick enough not to go into work was the day after I loudly declared in the office hallways that "I never get sick." As if I were somehow better than that!
Well, I was out for a week with a flu that taught me a lesson. I'm not always in control, and I don't have to be.

Snow Angels
What a blizzard we had yesterday in New York. No school, no work, no power, no problem—well, for the kids at least.
My girls’ biggest challenge was trying to keep their backyard snow angels in tact. Not easy when the wind and snow just won’t let up.
The few emails I was able to send to work with my spotty internet connection wound up in my own Drafts box. A lot of good that did.
Shoveling the driveway wasn’t so easy either, but with a neighbor’s help (thank you, neighbor!) it all got done.

The Lost Pass
I hate to lose things because it feels like a comment on my character. Still, it happens.
On Friday, January 29, I lost my monthly commuter pass on the way into work. I'd used it on the bus that morning but couldn't find it when it was time to show it to the train conductor. Without my monthly pass in hand, I had to pay for the ride in—those are the rules.

Angels Away!
I just got some great news that will help keep me warm for the rest of the frigid northern winter. This summer I’m going on a four-night “Bask in the Bahamas” cruise, where I’ll play host to friends of ANGELS ON EARTH and GUIDEPOSTS who want to join me for some fun in the sun.

“Geaux Saints!”
There’s a lot of that going around at home in New Orleans this week. Along with a whole lotta prayers for the Saints to win the NFC Championship game in the Superdome this Sunday.
I just wish my Mam-maw and Gramps were around to see it. They renewed their season tickets to the Saints games for years and got to know all the season ticket holders around them.

Praying for Angels to Surround Them
It was hard reading the paper this morning in the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating earthquake. All those desperate people, feeling safer outside in the streets for fear that whatever buildings remained standing would crumble in the aftershocks.

Cheers!
One week into 2010 and I'm off to a good start on my resolutions!
This year I intend to eat better, exercise more and think positive—to do my best to keep a healthy mind and body.
I've started a weight-bearing exercise class (good for the bones) at the YMCA and love it. And I've added a few leafy greens to my diet (it's a start for me, a former peas-only person in the greens department).

Merry Elvis to You!
I have so many Elvis ornaments on my Christmas tree, my den looks like Graceland. (Don’t worry, there’s an angel at the very top!)
My friend Sr. Violet knows what an Elvis fan I am, so she sent me “a concert.”
Click on this link to see Elvis singing “Blue Christmas” as a duet with a digitally added Martina McBride. “Modern technology at its finest,” says Sr. Violet.
