A Time to Pass It Forward
Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to speak to a weight-loss group at the gym where I work out. It was so humbling to be able to share with them all that I have learned about proper nutrition and exercise.
As I spoke to them I noticed many headshakes of understanding as they were able to relate to the struggles that all of us who are overweight experience.

Reading Food Labels
Just Call Me the Food Police
My father is a retired state trooper and my brother currently serves on the force, so I thought it was quite fitting when one of my students called me the “food police” the other day, after I had yet again read the ingredients on the back of a snack package that one of my students had brought to school.
I like the fact that they are listening to what I am telling them about making healthier choices, and that I am making a difference for a healthier lifestyle.

The Educator Is Finally Educated
As a teacher I am always concerned about my students' all over well being, not just their academics. As they have watched me become healthier and lose weight they have been encouraged and want to learn more about how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Another Physical Goal Met—5 Miles!
For the past several weeks it has rained off and on every day, so it was so wonderful to come home from work Friday evening to a beautiful sunshiny and mild afternoon.
I decided to go for the six mile trek that I often take when I have a little extra time. After warming up by walking for about three-fourths of a mile I began to jog. As I ran I thought to myself, I wonder if I can run the remaining five and one-fourth miles.

Nothing to Lose, But a Lot to Gain
I have not worn a size 10 since before my first child was born, and that was over 21 years ago.
While trying on some clothes the other day I saw a pair of jeans that were a size 10 hanging in the dressing room. At the time I was wearing a size 12, and they were beginning to get loose on me, so I wondered to myself, Could I fit into those jeans? I decided to give it a try and to my delight they fit—and without having to push myself into them!

It’s How We Finish that Counts
No Way! That was my response after looking at the scale when I weighed this week. For over a month I had basically been at a standstill. Two weeks ago I finally managed to lose one pound and then another pound the week following.
Then remarkably this week I lost five pounds! I was so surprised that I called to my husband and asked him to look at the scale to make sure I was really seeing the numbers that I thought I was!

Exercise Is a Stress Reliever
The week before the 5K race was very stressful for me. Due to the fact that it rained nearly every day during the week prior to the race the students at the school where I teach were not able to go outside because the school grounds were too muddy.

The Results Are In! Tammie’s Completed Her First 5K!
For the last three months Theresa Rowe has been training me to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Due to our hot humid summers here in Louisiana the majority of my training had been done indoors on a treadmill.

Problem Solved—I Hope!
It’s week three and once again I am at a standstill. According to the running total of calories burned that I keep in my journal, I should have lost three pounds by now.
So, the thought came to me the other day as I was recording the calories I consumed versus the calories burned: Could the fact that I’ve lost weight have an effect on the calories I burn each day?

Becoming a Beautiful Pearl Through Pain and Perseverance
According to the running total of calories burned which I keep, I should have lost three more pounds over the past two weeks. Unfortunately, the scales don’t say the same. Once again it appears that I am at a standstill at 193 pounds.
