Could You Use Some Good News?
It didn't take long after I graduated from college to know that a career in broadcast news wasn't for me.
I loved majoring in communications, and honing my writing skills, but I've never agreed that only bad news is news. I just couldn't devote my career to something that made me feel bad.
Have you ever wished the news was more positive?
You already know GUIDEPOSTS and ANGELS ON EARTH and this website are your favorite source for true stories of hope and inspiration.
Today I'm happy to bring you some more positive resources that also believe news can be good, and are sure to brighten your day.
The first site I found through Google was goodnewsnetwork.org. One of the headlines was "Brown Pelican Soars off U.S. Endangered List." How fantastic! How often do we hear of an animal being un-endangered?
Another told the story of a father and daughter reunited after 30 years.
The next site I checked out was happynews.com. I loved reading about how a Vietnam POW had his wedding ring returned!
The subjects on this site weren't only heartwarming, but also included topics on business and money (who couldn't use good news about THAT right now?!), health, sports, and science and technology.
On optimistworld.com features a story about how the global financial crisis is resulting in more time for travel and people pursuing small luxuries, such as golf and spa visits.
This website also has a tab that features companies making positive impacts on the world by engaging in sustainable business practices. They would love to hear from any company with Corporate Responsibility stories to share.
The most creative name belongs to gimundo.com, a site that promises good news served daily.
I enjoyed looking through their Videos, Best of the Web and Stuff We Like tabs. All contain a collection of interesting, fun, and inspiring items to enjoy and share.
I hope these sites help to lift your spirits and add cheer to your day—you already know where to get the stuff that does the opposite. Who knows, maybe one day they'll help redefine what the world thinks of news. And that's something I truly want to read all about.
