God's Plans Are Better Than Ours
Did you know that November is National Adoption Month?
Adoption has a very significant place in the life of my family. If you know my story then you know that one of the main reasons I auditioned for The Biggest Loser was my intense desire to have another baby.
I had health problems that were made worse by my obesity and doctors told me not only was it unwise to try to conceive at my weight, but it was unlikely as well.

Using Your Body for a Good Cause
This past weekend I had the privilege of running in a race in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL.
A privilege? Yes, that's exactly how I felt.
There was a time in my life when I couldn't have walked from the car to the starting line without being out of breath, cranky and frustrated. But this race was different on many levels.

Don't Be Tricked by the Treats
Some people have conflicting feelings about this time of year. And I say we are each conflicted by different things. But like it or not, the “Halloween holiday” does bring about many temptations not just to our kids, but to us as adults too.
This week alone, my son will have a party at school, attend “Spooktacular” at the Zoo, “Trunk or Treat” at church and then a little walk around the neighborhood Saturday night.

Happy Birthday Barbie
I read some interesting statistics this week. The average American woman is 5'4” tall, weighs 140 pounds and wears a size 14 dress. One-third of all American women wear a size 16 dress or larger.
Compare those stats with the fact that the average American model is 5'11” tall and weighs 117 pounds. In actuality most fashion models are thinner than 98% of American women. No wonder most of us have been on a diet since we can remember. How can reality compare with that?

Keeping Under Control at Special Events
This weekend my husband, Mike, and I traveled to Nashville, TN. We were there to attend the wedding of my fellow Biggest Loser finalist, Isabeau Miller and Jonathan Peterson.

The Apple of His Eye
I think we are all influenced by television commercials whether we like it or not. But I was particularly impressed by both a commercial and by the concept it promoted the other day.
It was for Dove Self-Esteem Workshops. After having been intrigued by the commercial, I researched it further on the Internet and I loved the philosophy behind the project.

He'll Find A Way
This past weekend I spoke at a Womens' Ministry Retreat in Orlando, Florida. The theme for the two-day event was “Faces in the Frame.” It was a wonderful time to get to know the ladies that were in attendance. We were all reminded that God has created us to be unique individuals. We all see an image “in the frame” and some of those images we like while others remind us of how far we still have to go. Let's face it, we're all on a journey.

Second Chances
This week The Biggest Loser made its return to TV for the eighth season. The theme of the new round of episodes geared at life change: second chances.
As the commercials have promoted, this season is all about second chances for the contestants. One contestant lost her husband and both children to a car accident two years ago and wants to live life again.
Another is a youth pastor who wants to live long enough to see his children grow up.

The Original "100-Calorie Pack"
There is a popular snack on the market today that boasts of the benefits of offering snack portions in increments of only 100 calories. While these are great—in theory—for portion control (if you can keep yourself from eating six of them because they are so small) I find them to be less satisfying because they are filled with processed food, lacking real nutritional value.
